Laboratory Technician
Position: Laboratory Technician (Direct Hire)
Location: Wallingford, CT
AimHire is hiring a Laboratory Technician for a global specialty chemicals company in Wallingford, CT! This organization is a leading manufacturer of coating resins and additives that make products more durable, scratch-resistant, and corrosion-resistant. Its technology goes into automotive finishes, smartphone coatings, aircraft interiors, wood flooring, and more.
They want a detail-oriented, engaged person who enjoys learning and wants to grow. You'll test production samples and make sure product meets spec before it ships to customers. Ideally you have 1–3 years of lab experience, though no degree is required. Paid training runs 3–6 months on day shift. The lab is a cleaner environment than the production floor, but you'll still be working around strong smells and hazardous materials. Hard hats, safety glasses, face shields, chemical-resistant clothing, and uniforms are all provided, and there's room to grow into higher-level roles over time.
This is an on-site, direct hire position starting at $32.98/hr. Once you're fully trained and have shown competency across the lab, your pay rises to $36.63/hr. Shift differentials are +$0.75/hr for 2nd shift and +$1.00/hr for 3rd. Employees work a set shift (no rotation) on a 6-days-on, 2-days-off schedule. The start date is ASAP.
Shifts
- 1st Shift: 8:00am – 4:00pm
- 2nd Shift: 4:00pm – 12:00am
- 3rd Shift: 12:00am – 8:00am
Responsibilities
- Perform lab tests on raw materials, in-process samples, intermediates, and finished goods according to written procedures
- Analyze key process parameters and tell production what adjustments are needed to bring batches back into spec
- Run calculations using supplied equations or spreadsheets
- Record test results in LIMS and other computer systems, and prepare certificates of analysis
- Review incoming raw material certifications against specifications
- Weigh raw materials for addition to production batches
- Calibrate lab equipment and keep calibration records up to date
- Prepare and email daily shift reports and QC lot backlog reports
- Keep lab supplies stocked and organized, and flag ordering needs to lab leads
- Keep the lab clean, and follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1–3 years of laboratory experience preferred (QC, chemical, or manufacturing lab a plus)
- Comfortable working around strong odors and handling hazardous materials
- Basic math, reading comprehension, and computer skills
- Basic knowledge of SPC (statistical process control) principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced lab while producing accurate results
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn
- Must live locally (no relocation assistance)
