U.S. based (remote) | Salary: $180K to $200K plus 10% bonus
About the Opportunity
AimHire has been engaged on a confidential basis to lead this search for a growing enterprise SaaS company based in Denver, Colorado. Our client builds the operational backbone that enterprises and government agencies rely on to run their day to day work, software that connects people, data, and decision making across an organization. Their customer base spans mid market, enterprise, and federal accounts, and they're currently working toward GovRAMP authorization to expand further into the public sector.
The engineering culture here is hands on and pragmatic, with small cross functional teams, heavy use of AI tooling in the development process, and a strong preference for trust and autonomy over heavy process. As the company enters its next growth phase, they're looking to bring in leaders who can build lasting structure without slowing down the people already building the platform.
The Role
Our client is looking for a Director of Engineering to take ownership of their software development and QA organization. This is a working leadership role, equal parts people management and technical execution, for someone who can build a strong team, create dependable delivery rhythms, and work closely with product, infrastructure, and the leadership team to get quality software out the door.
You'll be responsible for the engineering org's day to day health, hiring and developing engineers and QA staff, keeping cross team work moving, and holding the bar on quality and consistency. This is a strong fit for a leader who wants real ownership and a chance to shape how a growing SaaS company approaches building and shipping product.
Responsibilities
- Manage the software engineering and QA organization directly, including oversight of team leads and senior ICs
- Work with Product to turn roadmap priorities into clearly scoped engineering initiatives
- Set the bar for quality across the org, including testing standards, automation practices, and overall engineering discipline
- Foster a strong team culture through consistent 1:1s, feedback, coaching, and thoughtful hiring
- Spot and clear friction points across the delivery pipeline, from code review to deployment to incident handling
- Partner with infrastructure and DevSecOps so engineering has the tools and platform support needed to move fast safely
- Weigh in on architecture and technical roadmap decisions alongside the CTO
- Help ensure engineering practices align with GovRAMP and broader security and compliance requirements
- Shape the org's growth, including hiring plans, team structure, onboarding, and internal process
What We're Looking For
- Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical degree preferred, comparable hands on experience also considered
- 7+ years building software plus 5+ years leading engineering teams at a SaaS or cloud company (some overlap is fine, but real depth in both is expected)
- A track record managing engineers and QA staff within a fast moving, product led environment
- Comfort with modern delivery practices, including agile/scrum, CI/CD, code review, and release management
- Evidence of improving delivery speed and predictability without burning out the team or cutting corners
- Experience recruiting and retaining strong engineering talent in a tight market
- Sharp communicator, comfortable translating engineering work for product leaders, executives, and customers alike
- Enough technical depth to engage meaningfully in architecture and code review conversations
- Good instincts for when to push for speed and when to slow down for quality
Bonus Points
- Experience running engineering at a SaaS company serving enterprise or government clients
- Exposure to GovRAMP, FedRAMP, or SOC 2, and how those requirements shape engineering practice
- Hands on familiarity with a modern stack, including React, Node, Java, Spring, Hibernate, MySQL, AWS, and Kubernetes/EKS
- Experience weaving AI assisted coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, etc.) into a team's workflow
- History of scaling an engineering team through a period of rapid growth or major platform change
Reporting Structure
This role reports to the CTO and sits on the senior leadership team, working closely with product, infrastructure, DevSecOps, and security. The Director of Engineering owns people management for the full engineering and QA organization, with a voice in hiring plans, team design, and compensation decisions.
Location
Must be local to the U.S.
